2-dimensional composition is a required course for graphic design majors.

The projects in the first slideshow below are based on understanding of the elements and principles of design and how they work.  This is a freshman class many of the students have not had previous art classes in high school.

The second slide show represents hand lettered posters that students made at the end of the first semester in 2-D composition, media was open and the goal was to work with a theme that was interesting and self affirming.

The third slide show represents a dynamic line and shape project about deep space.  The students create designs that are to show how shape and form move the eye around an image.  In this project students make involved creating a sense of deep non objective space by using shape and line.  These finished projects are made with india ink and are 16" x 20"

The fourth slideshow is a hand-lettered typography project where students are asked to take three letters and develop a theme around each letter.  These are elaborate but all hand drawn with ink and all are unique.

The fifth  slideshow represents a conceal and reveal project.  Students learn how varying the percentage of high and low value as well as different color harmonies can alter identical images.
